**Reports to**:Senior Exhibitions Developer - Science and Technology Centre

**PURPOSE OF THE ROLE**

The Exhibitions Developer - Mātauranga Māori is responsible for the development and delivery of content and

interpretation for exhibitions from an Ao Māori perspective. Primarily this role will focus on the development and

delivery for MOTAT’s new centre for science, technology, and innovation (‘SciTech Centre’) but will also be

involved in other Exhibitions projects, including MOTAT’s Pumphouse project and Te Wai Ōrea narrative.

This role is responsible for providing an Ao Māori lens and using mātauranga Māori to contribute to the SciTech

Centre and other exhibition content and how it is interpreted in text, imagery, physical, and digital interactives.

**Background to the new centre for science, technology, and innovation**:
The centre will be at the heart of MOTAT’s vision to educate and inspire the innovators of tomorrow, confirming

MOTAT as the go to place for science and technology in Aotearoa. This new destination will be a playful and

collections and innovations from New Zealand’s current leaders in these fields.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Provide a Mātauranga Māori lens to the development and delivery of a science and technology centre at

MOTAT that focuses on hands-on activations that explore the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts

and Mathematics (STEAM) and ensures MOTAT’s vision is achieved.
- Contribute significantly to the main concept for the SciTech Centre that has te Ao Māori embedded and

integrated from the outset of the project.
- Provide a Mātauranga Māori lens to other projects, including MOTAT’s Pumphouse project and Te Wai Ōrea

narrative.
- Advocate for the needs and desires of the target audience for each exhibition from an Ao Māori perspective.
- Develop content and interpretation to the highest standards in accordance with agreed themes and sections,

types of experience and collection objects, appropriate to the identified target audience.
- Develop content and interpretation which delivers against agreed environmental and sustainability outcomes.
- Research and create networks of people, information, and resources relevant to the project.
- Review and edit the work of other SciTech Centre and Exhibitions team members, to ensure accurate and

consistent content and interpretation.
- Support the formation of advocate groups from communities, Iwi and other target audiences to foster

opportunities for co-creation and formative evaluation, as agreed with the Senior Exhibitions Developer -Science and Technology Centre and/or Exhibitions Manager.
- Support the formation of an advisory group of key science, Mātauranga Māori, technology, education, and

industry figures that can provide advocacy, insight and support.
- Work closely with the Kaupapa Māori team to ensure that the SciTech Centre and Exhibitions development

approach is consistent with Te Puna Whāngai Māori.
- Proactively identify opportunities to build mutually beneficial relationships with Mana Whenua and the Māori

community outside MOTAT in an authentic way.
- Actively participate and engage in kōrero as part of the Kaupapa Māori Committee and contribute the

Exhibitions voice to the discussion and any outcomes or initiatives.

- Work with the wider MOTAT Team, in particular teams with aligned goals or critical delivery roles.
- Contribute to project documentation, as required.
- Work with external contractors and designers to develop robust visitor experiences.
- Follow all museum policies and procedures including but not limited to Health & Safety and the Museums

Aotearoa Code of Ethics.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as may be required from time-to-time to ensure that MOTAT’s business

objectives are met.

**KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS**
- Effective engagement with Māori stakeholders, ensuring their needs in the development and delivery of the

SciTech Centre are advocated for.
- Active participation and contribution from a mātauranga Māori perspective to all development phases of the

SciTech Centre project.
- Timely completion of content and interpretation to meet the SciTech Centre project objective of embedding

and integrating a te Ao Māori approach into the project.
