**Position**:Senior Exhibitions Developer - Science and Technology Centre

**Reports to**:Exhibitions Manager

**PURPOSE OF THE ROLE**

The Senior Exhibitions Developer - Science and Technology Centre (‘SciTech Centre’) is responsible for the overall

development of content and interpretation for MOTAT’s new centre for science, technology, and innovation.

This role is responsible for leading the SciTech Centre project team to create a concept that brings science and

technology to life, aligns with New Zealand’s science and technology curriculum, Te Marautanga o Aotearoa and

Te Whāriki, and encompasses a Māori world view. This role is also the lead developer of the content on display

and how it is interpreted in text, imagery, physical, and digital interactives.

**Background to the new centre for science, technology, and innovation**:The centre will be at the heart of MOTAT’s vision to educate and inspire the innovators of tomorrow, confirming

MOTAT as the go to place for science and technology in Aotearoa. This new destination will be a playful and

collections and innovations from New Zealand’s current leaders in these fields.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Lead the development and delivery of a science and technology centre at MOTAT that focuses on hands-on

activations that explore the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) and

ensures MOTAT’s vision is achieved.
- Manage the SciTech Centre project team fostering collaboration and mutual support among teams and

functions. Inspiring the team to innovate to achieve the objectives of the SciTech Centre project.
- Deliver a concept that has te Ao Māori embedded and integrated from the outset, and which delivers against

agreed environmental and sustainability outcomes.
- Lead the SciTech Centre project team creatively through the exhibition development process.
- Develop an interpretive approach for the SciTech Centre including themes and sections, types of experience,

and collection objects, appropriate to the identified target audience.
- Form and lead advocate groups from MOTAT’s key audiences to foster opportunities for co-creation and

formative evaluation.
- Form and lead an advisory group of key science, mātauranga Māori, technology, education, and industry

figures that can provide advocacy, insight, and support to the SciTech Centre project.
- Research (or commission research) and create networks of people, information, and resources relevant to
- Create project documentation including briefs for text, physical and digital interactives, graphic design, and

spatial design.
- Work with contractors and designers to develop robust visitor experiences.
- Work closely with the wider MOTAT Team, in particular teams with aligned goals or critical delivery roles
- Be the voice of the project in reporting to the Exhibitions Manager, senior management, Board, partners,

sponsors and the wider MOTAT Team.
- Provide effective leadership and management of the SciTech Centre team and follow all People & Culture

people management policies and procedures.
- Follow all museum policies and procedures including but not limited to Health & Safety and the Museums

Aotearoa Code of Ethics.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as may be required from time-to-time to ensure that MOTAT’s business

objectives are met.

**KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS**
- Effective leadership and direction for the development and delivery of the new SciTech Centre.
- Production of detailed audience, exhibition, and interpretive plans through the development phases of the

project and as required by the Exhibitions Manager.
- Timely completion of content and interpretation to meet the SciTech Centre project’s goal of being the ‘go to

place for science and technology’.

**SKILLS & EXPERIENCE**
- At least five years’ experience developing complex, creative, audience-focused experiences in an area related

to science communication, education, or exhibition development.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including the ability to create engaging and innovative

interpretive approaches to complex science and technological concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, understand and respond to target audiences.
- Excellent teamwork skills; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with both internal and external

stakeholders and team members and lead small teams of
