Engagement Facilitator

Toi Ohomai delivers quality vocational education and training to both domestic and international students, across five main campuses in Rotorua, Tauranga, Taupō, Tokoroa and Whakatāne, and 68 delivery sites across the Bay of Plenty and South Waikato. Toi Ohomai is now a subsidiary organisation of Te Pūkenga and part of a transformational change unifying all 16 Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics across Aotearoa; together with other work-based, provider-based and online learning. Collectively we will be NZ’s largest tertiary education provider with national and regional reach enabling learners and employers to move between workplaces and other educational offerings and between locations as their needs change.
The Engagement Facilitator is a member of Student Services. The role aims to improve ākonga (learner) outcomes and retention. Focusing on facilitating better engagement and reducing non-academic barriers while maintaining integrity, independence and mana of the student.
More specifically the Engagement Facilitator will;
- Deliver a service to ākonga that supports better engagement and reduction in non-academic barriers for improving wellbeing and achievement
- Identify and work with at risk ākonga to improve poor outcomes and support retention
- Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with ākonga that effectively identifies and facilitates better engagement and the reduction of non-academic barriers
- Develop external partnerships with relevant services and resources that would be beneficial in supporting ākonga in achieving positive outcomes
- Where appropriate, facilitate the embedding of engagement and retention practices within various learning environments of Toi Ohomai Te Pūkenga
Key to your success in this role will be your:
- Knowledge of appropriate professional ethics and boundaries
- Experience in developing, facilitating and implementing positive learning initiatives
- Experience working with diverse communities
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships
- Delivery of culturally sensitive and responsive services to students
- Effective interpersonal relationships
- Degree in humanities, social work or another relevant field
- Experience working in a similar role (desirable, but not essential).
