**He angitūtanga | About the role**

This is an opportunity to join the small team of technical advisors that support DOC's operations staff to deliver work on the weeds that threaten our biodiversity and ecosystems.

You will work as part of a collaborative network, supporting each other in giving the best available advice across the country. You will also work on more nationally focused projects such as the development of best practice, the delivery of training for DOC staff involved in weed control, and support to DOC's work in the national wilding conifer control programme.

This is a permanent opportunity based in the South Island, Christchurch, Invercargill or Hokitika.

**He kōrero mōu | What we are looking for**

This is a great opportunity for someone with a background in pest plant management and weed control, who is looking to move into a more strategic role as a next step in their career.

We want to hear from you if you have:

- experience and understanding of weed management and the impacts of invasive weeds on our biodiversity
- strong verbal and written communication skills
- previous experience in planning and carrying out weed control operations
- strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable skills, experience, and qualifications:

- Postgraduate qualifications in plant science, ecology, plant biosecurity, horticulture, forestry or a similar field, or a tertiary qualification with equivalent experience.
- Qualifications in herbicide use.
- Experience with GIS, and good data management skills.
- Familiarity with the NZ flora and experience in plant identification, surveillance, and/or monitoring.
- Experience and knowledge in wilding conifer control, and the national wilding conifer control programme.
- Experience working in partnership with iwi and understanding of tikanga Māori and mātauranga Māori.
- Experience planning, leading, and managing cross-functional projects, meeting timeframes and budgets.
- Current, full New Zealand Driver Licence.
- A good understanding and experience of herbicide use.

The salary range for this position is $89,257- $113,578 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory - this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
