Wellington City, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

New Zealand Police is working with the community to make New Zealanders be safe and feel safe. With over 13,000 staff, we provide policing services 24 hours a day, every day. We operate by land, sea and air, manage over 860,000 emergency calls a year and are always actively preventing crime and crashes.

We’re working towards specific goals and targets that highlight our intent to work collaboratively with iwi and communities, other government sectors and business partners to deliver ‘Our Business’ and achieve long-term change.

Supervisor - National Tactical Intelligence, it starts with you
- National (location negotiable)
- Permanent, Fulltime

About the role

Tactical Intelligence has been a very successful component of Police’s recently established Tactical Response Model (TRM). Within the TRM, Tactical Intelligence has developed new tools, techniques and processes to identify and progress opportunities to contribute to staff safety.

As the Tactical Intelligence Supervisor, you will be part of the Tactical Intelligence Unit (TIU), which is, in turn, part of New Zealand Police’s National Intelligence Centre. This critical role enables our Mission - to prevent crime and harm through exceptional policing.

**In this national role, you will work with the Manager**: Tactical Intelligence to develop and deliver the strategic direction of Tactical Intelligence and TIU, as we move from a project space to a BAU space.

You will support, enable, and lead three Tactical Intelligence Regional Leads who are responsible for supporting and providing technical guidance to Tactical Intelligence analysts based in districts. Together, you and the Regional Leads will ensure that the analysts have everything they need to deliver on their role. You will also ensure that district intelligence leadership are supported in the Tactical Intelligence space as and when necessary.

This Supervisor’s role enables the prevention and effective resolution of the high-risk incidents Police deploy to. This is done by providing robust intelligence and sound assessments which directly impact on police decision-making. Our Tactical Intelligence support can lower the risk of harm to Police staff, victims, the community, and offenders themselves.

You will also lift our Tactical Intelligence capability nationally, support a range of work groups and frontline staff, help to ensure the safety of the TRM system and better ensure the safety of Police staff. Police staff respond and carry a high-level of risk to Police and the public. This means our intelligence must support, enable and accurately reflect the level of risk.

This position would suit an intelligence professional with leadership and operational experience. You will have the ability to lead, motivate and develop a high performing team. You will be innovative in your thinking, and your enthusiasm and interpersonal skills will be able to develop high trust and effective relationships with our people, our leaders, key stakeholders and partner agencies. You will be a strong team player who is excited to be part of a team which is highly motivated, passionate and united.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Provide day to day leadership and direction to the Regional Leads
- Responsible for regional liaison, with district intelligence units, TRM teams, and specialist squad leaders.

- Engage positively with internal and external stakeholders, agencies and community groups
- Establish, build and enhance key strategic relationships with partner agencies.
- Plan, coordinate and deploy resources to maximise effectiveness.
- Demonstrate leadership of the Police High Performance Framework in the team environment.

What you’ll bring

Being part of the Police whānau is about being our best to ensure our communities are safe and feel safe. Our Core Competencies provide a shared understanding of the behaviours, leadership and technical competence required for success at each level of Police. Whilst we are looking for skills, knowledge and experience relevant to the role, we also place high importance on your state of mind, the alignment of your values with ours, your ability to contribute to and build high performing teams, and the way that you lead yourself or others.

**You will be able to**:

- Lead, direct and manage teams to deliver on Our Business.
- Establish, build and enhance key strategic relationships with partner agencies.
- Plan, coordinate and deploy resources to maximise effectiveness.
- Able to navigate the relationship between tikanga, operational and strategic goals.
