- Manage and develop a team to deliver and support key relationships, using data-driven insights and initiatives, to support small to medium businesses.

When you join the Small Business Services (SBS) team, within the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), you will bring a wealth of experience and capability in creating, building, and fostering relationships with key partners and stakeholders.

As Director of Partnerships, Relationships & Insights in the Small Business Services team, you will work to support the Head of Small Business Services and team to identify, develop, and grow the support for small to medium businesses in Aotearoa, by fostering partnerships and relationships that enable a range of national programmes and services, both internal to MBIE and within other ministries.

We are seeking an open-minded, outcome-focused, and entrepreneurial-minded Director of Partnerships, Relationships & Insights, who will drive our partnerships strategy, assess opportunities, foster engagements, support business resilience and growth and help deliver impact for our projects and programmes.

Key to this work will also be the identification and evaluation of challenges for businesses in interacting with government and finding solutions to resolve these. You will be delivering this by drawing from your direct team of skilled and experienced insights, initiatives, and partnerships professionals, along with your own extensive experience.

As part of the Business and Consumer branch, you will also help enable outcomes for the wide range of customers this branch delivers support to.

A seasoned partnerships strategist, you will have significant experience managing and developing relationships of all levels of complexity, in both the public and private sectors. You will be well versed in the intricacies of government, ministers and their offices, and a consummate professional at engaging in and developing mutually beneficial partnerships among senior and middle management of ministries and other government and private agencies.
As our Director of Partnerships, Relationships, and Insights, you will:

- Identify, establish, and build relationships with partners across ministries, agencies, organisations, and private sector partners, who are key to enabling the Small Business Services (SBS) unit priorities, and the Better for Business (B4B) programme to achieve its objectives in supporting businesses, and to help set and gain collective buy-in to these priorities.
- Build relationships at the Ministerial level to gain support for Small Business Service priorities, and the B4B the programme as a contribution to the government’s strategic priorities.
- Identify, establish, and build strong relationships with other branches and groups within MBIE that are aligned with - and in some cases, instrumental to - the support of businesses in interacting with government, and in the development of small business capability development
- Demonstrate a knowledge of, and take a leadership role in, delivering and supporting Māori outcomes, to meet and support the obligations and intent of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Endorse and support engagement with and delivery to communities and groups that have been traditionally underserved or are groups of focus for MBIE.
- Maintain a focus on delivering and supporting initiatives to mitigate and reduce climate change and assisting adaption in response to the impacts of this climate change.
- Provide strategic leadership on complex, ambiguous multi-sector issues that come with significant sensitivity and risk.
- Provide cross-system leadership that drives change across agency operating models to improve outcomes for business customers
- Represent SBS, and the B4B programme, publicly in government, related governance groups and relevant industry forums as the voice of business customers.
- Build a strong, collaborative team culture that encourages listening, supporting, and working alongside partner agencies to represent the business customer perspective, and ensure that agencies collectively realise value from the programme’s workplan outputs.
- Be an agent of change: connecting cross domains, teams, branches, groups, and agencies to identify where attention
