**Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role**:
This is a Principal level role that is leading with influence, your knowledge and guidance will be an important contributor to Toitū Te Whenua - Land Information New Zealand's Agile journey.
You will be passionate for driving efficiency and innovation, you will lead a team of seven work leads and oversee the workflow of between thirty and forty people across seven squads. You will translate the roadmap and strategy into work plans for 120-day increments, removing impediments and understanding priorities, risks, and activities for your team.
This is a newly formed role, so you will have the opportunity to join us and make it your own, playing a pivotal role in collaborating cross-functionally across teams and the organisation to identify, analyse and implement process improvements, ensuring optimal service delivery to our customers.
You will bring your experience in leading and coaching technical teams/projects in an Agile environment, delivering front line products and services, you will also bring your understanding of traditional approaches to project delivery.

**This position will include**:

- Leading the delivery of our Products value stream, including our Basemaps and Maps and Charts squads
- Leading the delivery of our Services values stream that includes or Channels & Partnerships, GIS as a Service, Emergency Management and Visualisation & Analysis squads,
- Championing, leading, and embedding Agile practices across the Products and Services value streams,
- Developing and tracking objectives for 120-day planning for visibility and transparency,
- Participating as a member of the Location Information Leadership Squads,
- Helping manage risks and dependencies as well as escalating and tracking impediments,
- Working with Leaders, and other stakeholders to help ensure strategy and execution alignment,
- Driving continuous improvement via regular Retrospectives, including assessing the agility level of the squads and driving improvements,
- Partnering with other leaders to ensure successful delivery against 120-day commitments,
- Focusing on the functional (technical) management of developing team capability through coaching, mentoring, and actively sharing knowledge and expertise.

**To be successful in this role, you will have**:

- Experience in leading teams in an agile environment
- Strong communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills.
- A relevant qualification (nice to have)
- Experience in designing, developing, testing, and implementing fit-for-purpose products and services.
- A customer-focused mindset and the ability to identify and translate future customer needs.
- A collaborative and inclusive leadership style and the ability to work across teams to build a collective understanding of the needs and opportunities.
- A curious and innovative approach to problem-solving and the ability to leverage technology and data to create insights and solutions.
- A commitment to strengthening Māori Crown relations and the role of the public service in upholding and supporting the Treaty of Waitangi.

The expected appointment range for this role is $160,000 -$195,000 with an additional 3% Kiwisaver. This range reflects the expected skills and experience needed for successful delivery in this role.
You may notice that the Position Description title for this role is Geospatial Specialist - Level 4 and it doesn't match the advertised title. At Toitū Te Whenua we design our roles around shared capabilities (rather than focusing on tasks). This means our position descriptions are broad, one position description can cover many roles, this is known as Broad Based Role (BBR). Using BBR allows us to be responsive to our customers and to strengthen the connections across our organisation.
