Embrace this opportunity where you'll play a pivotal role in maximising the value of our hydro and geothermal power generation assets to ensure they consistently operate at their full potential. Mercury generates approximately 20% of New Zealand's electricity and it's an exciting place to be as we continue to grow our renewable generation portfolio where you'll lead a group of talented engineers (Process Engineers, Optimisation Engineers and Plant Chemists). Together, you'll define operating limits, model performance and analyse station data to uncover ways to generate even more electricity. As a valued member of the Operations Leadership Team, you'll report directly to the Head of Operations. This role offers flexibility, allowing you to work from Rotorua, Taupo or Hamilton and enjoy an ideal work-life balance with the perfect mix of office and site work with our 14 hydro and geothermal power stations all nearby, as well as being able to work from home.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Lead the Optimisation Team to ensure our assets are always operating at their full potential.
- Continued enhancement of assets working towards the maximum technical generation limit for all stations.
- Strive towards increasing performance through KPIs, surveillance, development, and execution of plans.
- Trouble shoot complex issues and remove bottlenecks to ensure that lost generation is minimised.

**We are looking for**:

- Significant experience in a similar role, such as Generation Development, or a role that has transferrable skills from the oil and gas or heavy industry including plant optimisation experience.
- Previous leadership experience
- Broad knowledge of operating and optimising generation systems
- Experience implementing structure surveillance and optimisation systems
- Experience with plant control and operations
