As a Senior Advisor you will support the management of the Ministry-wide governance system including contributing to an environment of continuous improvement. You will provide advisory and secretariat services to the Ministry's Board and Committees as well as providing “value add” governance support to Chairs and Committee members. You will work closely with other teams in the Governance and Assurance business unit ensuring the seamless provision of superior services that support effective decision making.
We are looking for someone with a sound understanding of the Machinery of Government, strong relationship management skills, an attention to detail and a natural ability to work well under pressure as you will be juggling multiple priorities. **In particular, you will be responsible for**:

- Providing secretariat and advisory services to the Ministry's Governance Board and committees.
- Supporting the Chairs and committee members with governance and procedural advice.
- Facilitating the smooth flow of committee papers and decisions and working closely with business units to ensure committee papers meet the needs of the Ministry's decision-makers.
- Building trusted relationships with Committee Chairs, members and report authors and becoming known as a trusted Governance Advisor with a focus on outcomes.
- Contributing to the development, evaluation and enhancement of governance frameworks, standards and processes.
- Supporting the Manager Governance deliver a work programme designed to lift the Governance maturity of the Ministry.
- Leading and/or contributing to any governance related projects.

**To be successful in the role**:

- Proven experience providing efficient and effective secretariat and advisory services to a senior executive team or an advisory or statutory body
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach
- Superior report writing skills
- Excellent planning and priority setting skills
- Ability to make sound judgements and identify and manage risks effectively
- Strong organisational skills
- Well-developed self-management skills
- Advanced skills in relationship management
- Demonstrated experience in systems thinking and working at a whole of Ministry level

Together, these functions provide knowledge, information and insights on key issues and risks internally and externally as well as advice to the Strategic Leadership Team.

Utu ā-tau/Salary

**Salary Range**: The appointing salary for this role will be between $94,377 and $131,591 based on skills and experience.
