Senior Advisor Governance and Risk - Fixed Term Role

Education New Zealand - Manapou ki te Ao (ENZ), is a Crown Agency responsible for international education.

Our mission is to deliver enduring social, cultural, and economic benefits to Aotearoa, by taking New Zealand education experiences to the world.

We're a small agency, around 100 people, with approximately 25 staff based outside New Zealand.

We work closely with a variety of other Government agencies, and in this role, you will gain exposure to all parts of the business.

Te āhua o Te Tūrunga - The nature of the position

The Senior Advisor Governance and Risk is a key role in the Government Relations team, which is responsible for providing strategic governance and risk advice to our Board, our Audit and Risk Committee, the Leadership team, and across the organisation.

You'll have the autonomy to design your own day to achieve an annual work programme.

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Manage of the Board and Audit and Risk Committee's work programmes by providing governance and risk management advice and support
  • Work closely with senior managers and their teams to develop strategic reporting for decisionmakers
  • Ensure that ENZ's governance processes are managed smoothly
  • Provide secretariat support for the Audit and Risk Committee
  • Own the organisation's risk management policy and procedure and lead work on building ENZ's risk management capability
  • Use your relationship management skills to promote an integrity culture within ENZ.


This fixed-term role is available for 9 months from May 2023 to cover our colleague who is going on Parental Leave.


We're looking for someone:

  • With years' experience in a Governance advisory role
  • Who has an understanding of and experience with governance and risk functions, ideally within the public sector
  • With excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • Who has knowledge and practical experience in strategic business reporting, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Who is selfmotivated, highly organised, and committed to continuous improvement
  • Who is highly adaptable, comfortable working with ambiguity, and confident in providing strategic advice and support to senior leaders
  • With a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Te Reo Māori me ōna tikanga.
