Our Power Systems Group provides multifaceted power system analysis and engineering, risk, and assurance management. This work supports Transpower in its role as System Operator (SO) to meet its principal performance obligations and successfully operate New Zealand's electricity market and power system for today and into the future.

**About the team**

The Engineering Assurance & Power System Engineering teams both play a key role in delivering this service by working with industry participants to understand how their assets perform against their obligations.

Our team works closely with the Electricity Authority (EA) to evolve the Electricity Industry Participants Code (the Code), and with Asset Owners to understand their assets capability and performance against the Code, investigate system events, and commission and test new or existing assets connected to the power system.

**About the opportunity**

We have a Senior Power Systems Engineer position available in Wellington or Hamilton.

Working collaboratively across the SO Power Systems group, wider Operations division and industry you'll identify, understand and solve complex problems, keep operational asset information and models up to date, and provide timely, accurate engineering support and advice to help inform our operational decisions.

You'll work with generators and distributors; the EA; Specialist Engineering Consultants; and manufacturers and vendors of energy resource technologies including batteries, wind, and solar.

With so many new customer connection requests you'll lead and coordinate with Asset Owners and other Transpower SMEs the System Operator process for commissioning and testing of generation or other energy resources, e.g. batteries connecting to the power system.

**About you**

Your outstanding communication and influencing skills and love of assurance work i.e. investigation, risk mitigation, testing, data modelling, monitoring, compliance, problem solving, advisory, etc will see you freely share your knowledge with other Engineers while ensuring we keep the lights on and future proof the transmission grid for generations to come

Your career to date, CV, and cover letter will demonstrate:

- 7+ years knowledge and experience in power system operations.
- Commissioning and testing experience with industrial equipment, preferably with generation assets.
- Engineering project management experience with high-voltage electrical equipment, including substations (zone and GXP sites).
- Experience with preparing/validating powerflow cases in PowerFactory for conducting power system analysis and simulations.
- Proven ability to analyse and interpret complex problems or processes, identify and understand requirements and develop alternatives.
- A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics or related fields.
- Professional registration as a Chartered Engineer (CPEng) - essential.
