Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Team Leader with Senior Investigator skills and experience to join our Northern team. The role is based at the MPI Auckland Office at Airport Oaks. The MPI Investigations team is responsible for the delivery of regulatory investigation services across animal welfare, biosecurity, fisheries, food safety, forestry, and all other legislation administered by MPI. The Team Leader manages and leads the team who conduct complex criminal investigations relating to all legislation administered by MPI.

**Key areas of focus of this critical team leader role will be**:

- Managing staff and leading the effective delivery of serious and complex regulatory investigations
- Providing leadership and management to investigators ensuring that robust processes for communication, performance management, learning and development are effectively implemented
- Supporting prosecution decision making processes for all offences under MPI administered legislation
- Developing and maintaining the Investigations Group Standard Operating Procedures, Guidelines and Enforcement Processes to ensure investigative best practice.

This is a challenging position that requires a high level of dedication, self-discipline and self-motivation. Ideally you will be able to demonstrate a high level of technical expertise and knowledge in the regulatory investigation and prosecution field, and the ability to use that experience to support and develop others.
While the role is primarily Auckland based, there is out of town travel with your investigators who may be deployed in a coastal, rural, or other remote location.

Mōu - About You
As Team Leader Investigations, you will have experience leading complex criminal or regulatory investigations, and working knowledge of investigation processes, including the ability to carry out an investigation, filing criminal charges, and preparing for trial.
Importantly, you will have excellent communication and presentation skills, and be highly experienced in managing a range of diverse stakeholder relationships, both internally and externally.

**Specifically, to be successful in the role you will have**:

- An ability to plan and prioritise use of time, use initiative and work without close supervision, a desire to share your expertise and mentor other investigators, and an ability to deliver clear and coherent investigation reports.
- A well-developed ability to formally interview suspects, collect evidence and deploy a range of modern investigative techniques
- Police Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) experience, fraud investigative skills, or other similar investigative training
- Analytical ability including use of spreadsheets
- Sound knowledge of search and surveillance legislation, criminal procedure, evidence law, and criminal disclosure
- Experience in deploying in confrontational law enforcement settings

The Investigations team sits within the the Investigations and Compliance Support directorate. Our team's mandate spans a broad range of Acts that MPI administer. We take responsibility for Acts without a dedicated compliance group and we accept referrals from other groups and co-regulators. We also assist officers and co-regulators with their investigations. We have a varied workload as we investigate matters across many of the Acts MPI administer
