We have a new and ambitious strategy focused on improving conservation outcomes.

Our Chief Security Officer is looking for a Senior Security Advisor to support our Security Team to protect our people, partners and assets and enable them to achieve better results for our precious and unique ecosystems, species, and spaces.

DOC's work is primarily operational, field and action orientated and spread over a large footprint throughout the country, so your work will be diverse, dealing with security matters such as supporting our national predator control programme using 1080, protestors occupying land, building security or social media threats.

As the Senior Security Advisor, you will provide expertise to support the embedding of security culture, processes, systems, and controls.


Some key tasks of the role are:

  • Managing the relationship with DOC's security provider
  • Managing the Government's PHYSEC Protective Security Requirements for DOC
  • Management of daytoday operations, security issues, and incidents
  • Contributing to the development of policy and processes
  • Providing investigative capability, contributing to and helping guide investigations where necessary
  • Develop and contribute to projects relating to security and investigations work
This role will require some travel to implement projects and enhance DOC's security culture.

This appointment requires an individual with significant experience in the security or law enforcement industry within the public sector, ideally with investigative capability.

You may be an experience Senior Advisor looking for new challenges or an experienced Advisor looking to advance their career.

You will bring previous experience in an advisory role involving threat mitigation, ideally from a large, geographically dispersed organisation.

You will be an outgoing person, comfortable with delivering presentations to large groups, with demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

You will have demonstrated knowledge of PHYSEC as per government Protective Security Requirements (PSR). You must have a full NZ driver license and be able to obtain security clearance at secret level.

The salary range for this position is $85,757 to $109,578 with the starting salary based on the successful applicants' skills and experience.

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory - this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
