About the Role


At Burwood Hospital, the Speech Language Therapy staff are embedded into their ward teams but benefit from having close professional support from colleagues.

Our Speech Language Therapists provide skilled assessment, management and rehabilitation of a broad range of swallowing and communication disorders. There is also involvement in an onsite Videofluoroscopy service. As part of the role you will be assisting in completing and analysing VFSS for patients.

Ko wai koe | About You**In this role, you will be responsible for:
  • Providing comprehensive assessments, evaluations and treatments in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice for Speech Language Therapy.
  • Delegating suitable tasks to a Kaiawhina allied health assistant within Speech Language Therapy.
  • Educating and providing resources to patients and their families/whanau, your clinical team and colleagues in the interdisciplinary team.
  • Ensuring appropriate documentation and patient records are updated and maintained.
  • Contributing to quality service provision within the allocated wards and the wider Burwood site, as well as the Speech Language Therapy service across CDHB.

  • Ability to complete thorough assessments and be able to flexibly integrate interventions using problem solving, robust communication whilst being led by your client s goals.
  • Ability to use objective assessment tools particularly Videofluoroscopy.
  • Some experience in working with adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders is required either in an inpatient and/or community setting.
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team within Older Persons Health and Rehabilitation.
  • Any experience in using BISSKiT and EMST would be valued.
  • Previous experience in providing education sessions to the interdisciplinary team or supporting student clinical education would also be advantageous
  • Experience in using an Allied Health Assistant would be beneficial.
  • You will be registered with NZSTA.
