About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga

Our Service Manager role presents an exciting and rewarding opportunity to work in an organisation committed to raising achievement and reducing disparity.


You will lead and work with a committed professional team delivering a range of Learning Support services to tamariki and rangatahi.

You and your team will work with whānau, communities, early childhood providers/Kōhanga Reo, schools/kura, Kura Kaupapa Māori and other Māori Medium settings to strengthen inclusive practices, raise student achievement and deliver on communities' aspirations.

About you | Mōhou ake

We're looking for a person with the ability to interpret and use data to inform decisions and to monitor and report on outcomes.


You will also demonstrate:

  • Confidence and competence in Te Reo Māori me ona tikanga and be able to weave this expertise into the work of Learning Support.
  • The ability to broker support from across agencies to deliver joined up work programmes tailored to local needs.
  • The ability to prioritise demands, identify, mitigate and manage risks to delivery of services.
  • Experience building workforce capability and diversity by supporting others to grow.
  • Significant experience and the ability to work effectively across and in Māori Medium settings (e.g., both early childhood and Kura) as a good kawanatanga partner.
  • Accountability for results and outputs required of learning support provision.
  • Skill using data and insights to make evidencebased decisions and to respond effectively to the needs of internal and external customers.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification and current full driver's licence.

Te Mahau | Te Tai Whenua (Central) is a frontline group that collectively provides leadership and integrated services to the sector and others.

Learning Support is a critical part of the Te Mahau | Te Tai Whenua (Central) Group in the Ministry.

We are charged with leading the education sector in ensuring that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education.


Our Learning Support specialists work closely with families, whānau, caregivers, schools and early childhood educators in English and Māori medium settings and other agencies to help maximise learning outcomes and promote social inclusion.
