The Deputy Director Open Source Intelligence (DD OSINT) on behalf of the CDI provides oversight of and strategic support to the NZDF's intelligence capability.

In support of Defence intelligence, the DD OSINT will use their extensive intelligence understanding and experience to guide and align efforts across the NZDF system for best effect to meet Chief Defence Intelligence priorities.


Key responsibilities:

  • Producing reporting material and documents for use.
  • Delivery of briefings to a range of audiences.
  • Supporting the provision of accurate, timely and highquality strategic intelligence for effective decision making at all levels.
  • Contributing to identifying, development and implementation of the required OSINT capabilities to achieve long term strategic objectives.
  • Maintaining governance of policy and capability development and communicates advice.
  • Ensuring that security, operational, organisational and reputational risks to NZDF are identified and managed to approved standards in alignment with the Protective Security Requirements (PSR) and NZDF's risk management systems.
  • That change management programmes are identified, developed and implemented to supporting the strategy.
  • Contributing to the development of NZDF policy, manuals, and publications aligning the team's functions and delivery.
  • Representing NZDF in OSINT engagements with international security, intelligence and defence partners to facilitate strong, mutually beneficial partnerships.
  • Taking a proactive approach to building and maintaining a positive reputation for NZDI with customers, partners and stakeholders.

  • Highly developed analytical and strategic thinking skills, including the ability to critically analyse information and draw conclusions, as well as problem structuring and resolution skills.
