This is one of five roles advertised for the Portfolio Management Office. A fantastic opportunity to help re-shape the team, contributing to our interesting, vibrant and high performing team culture.

A key member of the Portfolio Management Office, the Portfolio Planning and Scheduling Specialist works alongside the other portfolio specialists, and programme and project professionals to ensure schedules are consistently documented and tracked with adequate visibility of lifecycle phases and stage gates.

You will analyse dependencies and constraints across the programmes and projects within Defence Estate and Infrastructure (DEI).

You will work collaboratively with the DEI Programme Management Office, programme and project teams and other stakeholders to ensure that risks and issues impacting the DEI programmes and project schedules are consistently identified and addressed.

This role is based in Wellington CBD.

Once you have undergone training and are up to speed, there is the option of working from home one-two days a week.

This is a relationship-focussed role requiring highly developed communication and stakeholder management skills.

You will be a results-driven and customer focused P3M professional with knowledge and technical expertise in portfolio, programme and/or project management and delivery.


Ideally, you will have:

  • Strong communication and influencing skills with an ability to engage internal and external stakeholders in complex schedule planning and dependencies management resolutions.
  • Planning and scheduling experience across a large number of programmes and projects.
  • Strong expertise in project, programme and portfolio scheduling, dependencies and resources management across the enterprise including schedule risk, issues, changes and conflict identification, and facilitating resolutions.

Defence Estate and Infrastructure develop, maintain and manage land, property, and infrastructure assets in order to support NZDF military capabilities and all of government outcomes.

The Defence estate comprises over 80,000ha of land with infrastructure and buildings, with a replacement value of some $2.8bn.

The Portfolio Management Office (PfMO) is responsible for leading the integration of the portfolio, programme, and project management - P3M - capability across Estate and Infrastructure.

The PfMO adds value by focusing decisions on the things that matter most to the organisation and governance boards in order to support the achievement of NZDF outcomes.
