Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time
Te tūnga | The role
We've changed the way our payroll operates at ESR - Science & Research. We've recently implemented Workday and Datapay and now most of our payroll changes are automated into our payroll system.

This has required a different way of working and we're looking for a proactive tech-savvy and experienced payroll team leader who knows payroll inside out.

We have a permanent full-time role for a Payroll Team Leader to join our People Operations Team and lead a small Payroll team of one.

You will be responsible for leading the operational delivery of an accurate and responsive payroll service to ESR and its employees that meets our contractual and legislative obligations.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Previous and relevant experience in payroll, coupled with experience leading a payroll function in a similar sized organisation.
  • Knowledge and ability to use Datapay, and knowledge of Workday or other HRIS would be beneficial.
  • Experience working with integrations, using technology to drive automation, and understands data relationships and dependencies
  • Demonstrated experience in actively identifying opportunities for improvement across the entire Payroll function.
  • Experience configuring and testing payroll system changes
  • Strong understanding of employment law relating to payroll processing, particularly the Holidays Act, Parental Leave Employment Protection Act, and Wages Protection Act
  • Experience with Excel and other Microsoft and reporting tools to an advanced level.
  • Excellent attention to detail and curiosity to follow your instincts to identify potential issues
  • The ability to work in an agile, small, and effective team.
It often goes without saying, but confidentiality is of utmost importance to us here at ESR.

Ngā painga | The benefits ESR provide an excellent environment for fostering and developing our people in a values-driven, flexible and ever evolving landscape.

We are leaders in our field and our laboratory facilities are second to none. We offer diverse benefits including flexible working options that support everyone's lifestyle in balance with their work commitments.

This role will require you to be in the office at least 2 days per week, with flexible and remote working on other days.

Our people gain value from other benefits such as job-related learning and development opportunities, access to employee health schemes, social events and wellbeing initiatives.

Please note the successful applicant will be required to complete a pre-employment drug-screen and police records check as conditions of employment.
