Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
New Zealand Food Safety is undertaking an exciting programme of work to implement the Organic Products and Production Act. The Act has established a new regime to regulate organic claims and the businesses that make them.

Plant, Wine, and Organic Assurance (PWO) is seeking a Senior Adviser to progress the development and implementation of the export assurance system under this Act.

This is a fixed term opportunity until June 2025.

This role has a particular focus on the development of organic standards (including notices and guidance) to support the export of organic food, beverages, plant products and animal products from New Zealand.

This role will also assist with the development of Overseas Market Access Requirements (OMARs) and develop processes and tools to support the transition from the current Official Organic Assurance Programme to the Organic Products and Production Act.

This is an ideal opportunity to learn about the development of export assurance programmes that will underpin New Zealand's ability to negotiate trade agreements and to provide export certification for organic products.

As part of the role at the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), the Senior Adviser will contribute to the following:

  • Work with the current organic assurance experts to learn how to maintain our existing system and implement the Organic Products and Production Act in accordance with MPI's assurance principles to meet market requirements/expectations.
  • Learn how changes impact the industry, and how to manage these changes in a manner which enables industry to continue to export in compliance with requirements.
  • Support our export assurance systems which will ensure our markets have continued trust and confidence in New Zealand's organic products.
  • Collaborate with SME's across MPI to determine the best way forward on matters relating to organic exports.
  • Support the development and maintenance of quality management systems within the team.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of export standards for organic products.

Plant, Wine and Organic Assurance works in a constantly evolving environment, so specific work activities may change in line with changing expectations.
