Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role


As a Adviser / Senior Adviser, Economics, you will be responsible for analysing and monitoring global economic and financial trends and providing high quality advice on issues relating to international economic development.

You will lead selected analytical workstreams and contribute actively towards New Zealand's International Development Cooperation programme.

You will demonstrate enthusiasm and leadership in working through complex and challenging economic issues in support of the achievement of the Ministry's strategic priorities, including improved international development outcomes.


The salary range for these roles are:

  • Adviser : $101,000 to midpoint $119,000
  • Senior Adviser : $121,00 to midpoint $142,00
These fixed total remunerations are inclusive of our 3% KiwiSaver employer contribution and negotiable depending on skills and experience.

We'd like to hear from you if you possess the following skills and experience:

  • A postgraduate tertiary qualification (preferably at Honours level or above) in economics and/or finance
  • Experience providing qualitative and quantitative economic analysis and policy advice
  • Understanding of the international economic and political environment
  • Experience researching and analysing global macroeconomic and financial markets trends
  • Advising on economic policy issues


Ideally you will also have a good understanding of tikanga (Māori customs and protocols), with the ability to weave te ao Māori (the Māori worldview) into your work.

If you are just starting on this journey that's OK too - as long as you have a willingness to learn and a desire to develop your cultural capability.
