Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Principal Adviser to provide high-quality advice on our red meat sector.

As Principal Adviser, you'll have a trusting, direct and attentive working style with managers across the directorate, and be quick to understand priorities and drivers.

You'll also develop close working relationships with members of the NZFS Leadership Team and other key people at MPI to reflect the directorate's priorities, obtain time-critical information, problem solve solutions and triage information coming from across the organisation back to the directorate.

This is a great opportunity for someone with in-depth veterinarian experience, or a considerable amount of knowledge in red meat processing.

Mōu - About You

  • Relevant tertiary qualification and/or significant (10 years' or more) relevant work experience.
  • Food technology, microbiology or veterinary, meat science or other science degree preferred.
  • Highly developed and expert technical knowledge of food safety, particularly HACCP (Red Meat processing desired).
  • In depth regulatory understanding of the Animal Products Act 1999 including supporting regulations and notices.
  • In depth working knowledge of the red meat regulatory rules and supporting systems.
  • In depth understanding of the red meat sector supply chain from farm to plate.
  • Ability to inspire, coach and mentor other team members.
  • Proven track record in strengthening relationships through partnership.

The position is in the Food Regulation Directorate within MPI's New Zealand Food Safety branch. This branch leads our food safety system.

It provides the requisite confidence, transparency and trust to domestic and overseas consumers, overseas regulators, and the primary industries as to the credibility, integrity and strength of our regulatory settings and systems for food safety.
