Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role

We are seeking a principal analyst with a strong understanding of primary sector policy to work across the Animal Sector Policy team and wider Primary Sector Policy Directorate.

The focus of the role will be to lead the Animal Sector Policy team's dairy sector work programme and support the wider Primary Sector Policy management team to build the Directorate's capability in providing sector policy analysis and advice across its policy domains (horticulture, production animals, fisheries, aquaculture and forestry).

  • Expertise in competition and economic policy
  • Experience working in sector performance policy (preferably in a primary sector context)
  • Provide clear, concise, wellreasoned, articulate, and practical advice
  • Can take a broad perspective and make connections between commercial, environmental, and social issues
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and the desire to make a positive contribution to the team
  • Can build and maintain a network of relationships with stakeholders across MPI, other Government agencies, and Industry.

The Animal Sector Policy team is situated in the Primary Sector Policy Directorate at MPI.

We provide analysis and advice on the performance of New Zealand's animal-based primary sectors with a focus on our larger sectors - meat, dairy and wool.

We work across the range of issues and opportunities facing these sectors to support their sustainable performance for the good of New Zealand.

We are a large team with a broad work programme including strategic and regulatory policy.

We like to work collaboratively, and we actively look for opportunities for people to contribute to work across the team, the wider directorate and MPI.
