He aha te mahi? What's the role?:
The Technical Specialist - Data and Response is a brand new, operational execution role and focuses on three key areas;

  • Supporting the management and day to day operation of the Zespri Pest Identification laboratory and Pest ID Programme to support Phytosanitary certification
  • Supporting the development, implementation and ongoing management of systems to enable adherence to Official Assurance Programmes (OAP) to support Export Plans, with specific focus in China
  • Data collection, analysis and reporting to provide support to the wider Quality Systems in incident prevention, management and response
Your key responsibilities will include;

  • Providing accurate and timely undertaking of pest ID's in the Zespri Pest ID laboratory for the kiwifruit industry
  • Assist industry pest identifiers to establish competent resources at the industry level
  • Assist with training post harvest pest identifiers in pest identification processes
  • Coordinating the pest ID training material working with other NZ commodities to build a cross commodity pest identification training system
  • Streamline and improve collection of real time pest data throughout the season
  • Compile data and reports to provide industry stakeholders with feedback throughout the season regarding pest finds and market holds
  • Work with Orchard Services Manager and Market Access Manger to develop a process for managing and resolving pest interceptions relating to the China Export Plan
  • Support the wider Quality Systems team with data collection, analysis and reporting
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and process excellence across the Quality Systems team

You will be a self-starter, who has a sound understanding of Quality Systems, with a high attention to detail.

You will also meet the following selection criteria:

  • A tertiary qualification in Horticulture, Food or Science related disciplines, or 3+ years relevant industry experience
  • At least 2 years experience in a Quality Systems or Data Analysis role
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Computer literate (Word and Excel)
  • Effective team member, helps others by being flexible and adaptable
