**He aha te mahi? What's the role?**:
The Technical Specialist - Food Safety and Supplier Assurance role key focus is to develop and implement the portfolio strategy for the Food Safety workstream at Zespri. This includes working closely with key stakeholders across the industry to support the implementation of the strategy to meet customer requirements and maintain strong brand value. This role ensures compliance to all required Food Safety standards and certifications including GFSI certifications, Customs SES plans, and Sedex across all the Post-Harvest Facilities in New Zealand. The scope of the role also includes supporting Zespri global operations.

Key Responsibilities include:

- Develop and implement the food safety strategy, translating strategic priorities, regulatory and customer requirements into global and local programmes of work.
- Lead the engagement of key business and industry stakeholders within each workstream, identifying and building positive relationships at senior and operational levels of the industry to ensure requirements are successfully embedded in the business / industry.
- Provide effective oversight of Food Safety and Customs Regulations.
- Ensure that the Food Safety Programme meets all requirements relating to global standards such as Food Defence, Food Security Standards, Ethical Trading.
- Provide technical assistance and support in all aspects related to Food Safety in New Zealand and across Zespri Globally.
- Develop and implement training programs related to Food Safety, Customs, Sedex for business and industry stakeholders
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with Post-Harvest Facilities, Certification Bodies, NZ regulators and associated auditors
- Lead the BRCSG Agents & Brokers Programme of work
- Actively participate in Food Safety Steering groups and forums both internally and externally. Contribute positively as a team member, supporting colleagues, contributing to team planning and strategy development, and representing food safety throughout the company and industry.

- Advanced technical understanding of food safety programmes and international food safety certification standards (BRCGS, SQF, ISO 22000) and Customs SES plans essential
- Previous involvement in large, cross-functional, complex programmes of work
- Experience leading and implementing food safety / customer requirements across third party manufacturing sites would be advantageous
- Experience working in the primary sector, and horticulture, desirable
- A Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field (required)
- Advanced HACCP and audit certifications (desirable)
