The Opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahiWe are the kaitiaki of the land transport network for every person in Aotearoa New Zealand.

It's our role to ensure everything in the system - the people, infrastructure, services and vehicles - is integrated. When everything works together, people and freight can travel easily, safely and efficiently.

The Principal Advisor - Benefit Management will:

  • Be the 'go to' person for benefit management expertise and practice across NZTA Waka Kotahi
  • Maintain the benefit management process so that actions are clear, timebound and well communicated, ensuring stakeholders can meet expectations
  • Expand benefit management to support the achievement of performance outcomes and early stage benefit definition for new initiatives
  • Maintain a Master register of benefits to ensure consistent terminology and categorisation of benefits, aligned to the Land Transport Benefits and report on benefit delivery performance and ensure information is of known quality
  • Lead and support the uplift in benefit capability in the Portfolio Offices and across the NZTA | Waka Kotahi enterprise. This will include a community of practice.
  • Assess and provide assurance on benefits and associated benefit definition documents, including the benefit profiles
  • Work with colleagues in the EPMO to establish monitoring and reporting on the performance of the portfolios
  • Work closely and establish good relationships with key enabling teams, including Finance and Performance Management
  • Take part in Portfolio team and wider EPMO improvement work to ensure we can successfully deliver on our roadmap of change
  • Experience in driving the adoption of a benefit practice, including proven ability to coach and develop the capability in others
  • Ability to bring together diverse stakeholders to deliver plans and initiatives and make sure that the stakeholders are fully committed to the process and outcomes
  • Experience in provision of senior management level reporting on benefit process and benefit delivery performance and are proactive about getting targets to where they need to be
  • A desire to share what you have with others, while maintaining your own expertise
  • Curiosity about how things work and will look for opportunities to make things work better and more efficiently for those who use our services. You will make sure that changes can be adopted by our portfolios
  • Collaboration and joined up thinking: we need to strengthen all parts of our P3M system. This will include working with colleagues in other parts of NZTA | Waka Kotahi.
  • An ability to see stakeholder's points of view and express decisions and other information in their language

In that regard, this role provides benefit definition and management expertise, across our organisation. The role is our 'senior technical expert' in benefit management.

The role works with our financial, investment, performance and assurance services to plan outcomes that can be successfully delivered and add measurable value.

We work across the delivery portfolios and with our other colleagues in NZTA | Waka Kotahi to ensure we can be successful together.

We have a challenging roadmap of improvements to implement over the next couple of years and we are committed to seeing the roadmap done and done well.
