About the opportunity


At Fonterra we view our engineering and integrity of our equipment as a critical function allowing us to achieve global best practice.

This is a key role contributing to our new plant builds and an opportunity to take asset integrity to a new level.

As our new Senior Mechanical Engineer, your goal will be to create, improve and protect the mechanical engineering environment with a primary focus on mechanical assets such as industrial boilers, high speed rotating assets, high energy pipework, pressure vessels, and other utility equipment.

Reporting to our Group Manager -Mechanical Engineering, you will support in setting Engineering Standards in the field of Mechanical Engineering and provide engineering solutions for new and existing mechanical assets to enable assets to be managed through their lifecycle.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a significant part in innovative projects and influence our direction to improve our energy efficiency and our decarbonisation plans.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • In collaboration with key stakeholder roles across Fonterra, provide technical direction and quality assurance for Mechanical Engineering on significant capital projects.
  • Support the development & maintenance of Global Engineering Standards, Codes and Guidelines
  • Support Asset Category Planning (ACP) of specific Assets
  • Build relationships and leverage partnerships with industry and the wider engineering community in the area of innovation and technology to meet our obligations and achieve Fonterra's long term aspirations.
    About you


We are looking for passionate Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience working in and an understanding of heavy mechanical or industrial engineering environments.

Working with a range of key stakeholders across Fonterra and our engineering partners, you will have strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to drive initiatives and influence.

We want to hear from you if you have:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering and ideally be Certified Professional Engineer (CMEng/CPEng)
  • Utilities experience such as boilers, high speed rotating equipment, steam systems, or pressure vessels would be highly beneficial
  • Experience managing engineering change in complex industrial environments
  • An understanding of engineering practices inside regulatory environments
  • Excellent project management, planning and prioritisation skills.
