About the opportunity


At Fonterra we view our engineering and integrity of our equipment as a critical function allowing us to achieve global best practice.

This is a key role contributing to our new plant builds and existing plants, with the opportunity to take asset integrity within the Co-Op to a new level.

In this newly created role as Senior Mechanical Engineer, your goal will be to create, improve and protect the mechanical engineering environment with a primary focus on Asset Integrity.

This includes mechanical engineering processes such as welding, inspection and fitness for service assessments on pressure equipment.

Reporting to our Group Manager Mechanical Engineering, you will set Mechanical Engineering Standards and provide engineering solutions for new and existing mechanical assets to enable assets to be managed through their lifecycle.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Technical direction for Maintenance of high risk pipelines and pressure vessels at our various Fonterra manufacturing sites
  • Enable business units to achieve asset performance standards based on effective life cycle practices and processes
  • Support the development & maintenance of Global Engineering Standards, Codes and Guidelines
  • Participate, develop, and as required lead a Community of Practise (CoP) to develop & deploy Mechanical Engineering Capability at Fonterra.
  • As part of our National Group Engineering community, you will get lots of exposure to various projects, new technologies and innovation to develop not only your experience, but the way our environment is shaped for the future and truly make a difference

About you


We are looking for passionate Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience working and an understanding of heavy mechanical or industrial engineering environments (Fabrication, Assembly, Construction etc) in a project, operational or maintenance capacity.

Working with a range of key stakeholders across Fonterra and our engineering partners, you will have strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

You will have an ability to manage ambiguity as well as drive and influence initiatives.

We want to hear from you if you have:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering and ideally be Certified Professional Engineer (CMEng/CPEng)
  • Experience with steam systems, high energy pipework or pressure vessels is essential
  • Qualifications and/or experience with mechanical engineering processes such as welding processes, inspections and metallurgy with carbon steels and alloys
