Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time
Mō te tūnga | About the role
Workforce planning is all about our greatest resource - our people.

Workforce planning is the process of forecasting and managing the size, composition, and skills of our workforce to ensure the NZDF can meet its operational outputs.

This critical function ensures we have the right people, with the right skills, in the right roles, at the right time.

The Principal Workforce Planner is responsible for the development and maintenance of workforce strategy and contributes to the overall NZDF workforce strategy.

You will support strategic workforce planning leadership in facilitating an end-to-end strategic workforce planning approach including conducting environmental scanning, workforce segmentation, supply and demand analysis, scenario planning and gap analysis and the monitoring of critical workforce segments.

You will also facilitate the development and monitoring of personnel costs within NZDF to help to identify internal and external workforce factors that could affect growth and translate these into business priorities to influence HR programmes and initiative priorities.

This position is for the Principal Workforce Planner assigned to Civilian Portfolios, such as People, Finance and other enabling functions.

Our Civilian workforce are a critical component of the NZDF workforce and you will be responsible for their workforce strategy and personnel requirements.

While we need someone with some technical knowledge and analytical skills, we will provide training and development to a suitable applicant with the strategic thinking, problem solving and relationship management skills that we need.

We are looking for a respected team player.

You will have some analytical skills and an interest in translating raw data into information and knowledge using dashboards, data visualisation and reports.

You will have strong communication skills and the ability to present and explain technical information to others in an easy to understand way.

This role would suit someone with an HR background that has some business analysis experience and wants to further develop their technical skills.

You will bring:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the public sector;
  • Experience in making strategic level decisions;
  • The ability to interpret and analyse data and translate this into research findings;
  • Experience in contributing to projects; and
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in business or project management or equivalent work experience.
Mō mātou | About Us

The Workforce Planning, Systems and Analytics Unit is responsible for providing this support by developing and integrating workforce strategy and supporting HR plans and initiatives for the overall NZDF effect of generating a sustainable workforce.
