Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi - About the Role


The core purpose of this role is to develop high quality industry relationships throughout Canterbury in order to inform industry and business of the capability development opportunities available to them and their teams at Ara.

These opportunities will enable Ara to provide skills and/or qualification outcomes for industry throughout the Canterbury region and achieve Ara organisational targets.

You will engage with industry in order to facilitate innovative solutions to support their needs aligned with Ara training offerings and enabling student success while supporting Ara Departments to increase diversified/other income targets.

You will be highly motivated by achieving and exceeding organisational targets and seek innovative and creative solutions to achieving these.

  • Maintains and develops relationships with prospective clients.
  • Creates a positive network across broad business base.
  • Actively gathers market and customer information and records these appropriately.
  • Responds to communication from stakeholders in a timely manner both internally and externally
  • Negotiates the terms of an agreement to a successful conclusion.
  • Industry account management experience
  • Can represent the organisation at exhibitions, events, and demonstrations.
  • Excellent negotiating capability including, costing, delivery options and specifications with stakeholders
  • Ability to facilitate business opportunities between external and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyse and advise on forthcoming product developments.
  • Understanding of marketing and communications strategies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills i.e., ability to develop detailed business cases and evaluations of activity
  • Selfreview of sales performance, aiming to meet or exceed targets.
  • Ability to identify skills training gaps/business opportunities and respond to these.
  • Develops and actions specific campaigns as required.
  • Ability to develop and deliver seminars, presentations and produce relevant reports.
  • Uses Research & Development tools and data to inform decision making.
  • Has analytical and evaluation skills
  • Intermediate capability of MS Office Suite and IT packages
