As the Manager of our DevOpsteam, you will be a member of our Digital Systems Development leadership team focused on growing our DevOps/CloudOps engineering practice to set product teams up to deliver quality, sustainable and resilient national products focused on improving our health outcomes.

This role is broad and covers CI/CD pipeline management, managing enterprise tooling and the developer experience, automation of tests, deployments, security and performance capabilities, focusing on service reliability engineering and providing monitoring and alerting capabilities across National Digital Services.

You will be responsible for automating and streamlining release and environment management processes focusing on delivering value quickly while maintaining auditability and safety for Te Whatu Ora.

FinOps is also a key capability that needs to be developed as we leverage more and more consumption-based services.


You will work closely with the other members of the leadership team to ensure that the technology services we provide meet the needs of the organisation, be a part of the decision-making and planning process for the team and contribute to the overall strategy and direction of the technology services provided by Te Whatu Ora.

As an experienced digital leader, you will have a strong understanding of the technology landscape and be able to bring new ideas and best practices to the team.

You will have the ability to lead and motivate a team of professionals, build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and bring along your strong communication and problem-solving skills.

The role blends people leadership with a diverse range of technology practices and you'll be someone who can turn theory into practice and show creativity when solving problems.


Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience:

  • A relevant graduate and/or post-graduate qualification
  • Seasoned experience in a similar role in large and complex environments
  • Experience in a digital leadership role with a background in delivery and operations management working with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Advanced understanding of AWS, Azure Cloud, SaaS and Paas and FinOps practices
  • Significant experience of modern development practices e.g., CI/CD, automated testing, CloudOps
  • Experience managing enterprise tooling and the developer experience for product teams to leverage and enable them to deliver at pace
  • Proven experience working in an agile / lean environment and supporting the uptake of these ways of working alongside DevOps
  • Experience building up monitoring capabilities to provide feedback to product teams including APM, User experience monitoring.
  • Demonstrated ability to build high performing collaborative teams, motivate and encourage teams in an environment of change
  • Proven relationship building skills and welldeveloped communication skills.
  • Proven ability in developing strong partnerships with suppliers and vendors
  • Strong financial management of operational budgets and demonstration of financial prudence.
  • Demonstrated intuition and the ability to balance good process with the need to make clear decisions in demanding situations such as. priority service outages.
