Team Overview:

We are the Operational Health and Engineering Metrics team at Xero. We are an internal tooling team managing our Engineering Insights and Operational Health Systems.

Our systems are used by Xero engineering teams to drive improvement, and by internal stakeholders to see a birds eye view of engineering and operational health across the organisation.


Our Data Engineering projects are built on Xeros Analytical Data Environment where we use Python + DBT for the data pipelines and Microstrategy for visualisation.

We also own some older components that we're migrating to that stack, running on a mixture of Kubernetes, and AWS Lambda, Glue, Athena, and Quicksight.

Our team work to make world class engineering at Xero easy and fun, providing engineering insights, reports and dashboards to support our DevOps transformation to push forward through productivity.


We are a team of 8 Engineers based across Wellington, Sydney and Melbourne and work following Trunk Based Development and Continuous Delivery.

We have adopted a Kanban methodology to manage our pipeline and we often mob/peer on tasks.

We are a very social team, whether this is getting together to share knowledge or problem solve, complete the Stuff Quiz or the odd table tennis battle.


Are comfortable with or keen to learn the most of the following technologies:

  • SQL, Snowflake, dbt, Python, AWS, AWS Quicksight, Terraform, Kubernetes, Microstrategy, Git, CI/CD pipelines, TeamCity
  • Implement data pipelines to extract data from multiple sources
  • Transform data using stream, microbatch or batch methods
  • Deploy data pipelines following DevOps principles and incorporating automated code & data testing
