Mō te tūnga | About the role

The Supply Chain Information Manager is part of Defence Logistics Command (Land) who are responsible for all Land Logistics, primarily for the NZ Army.

In this role you will lead and manage the Supply Chain and Information staff, providing leadership, coaching and mentoring.

You will be responsible for the delivery of 'end to end' supply chain capability monitoring and assurance of all Land service equipment and materiel as well as logistic information management and reporting.

You will design, develop and monitor Army supply chain compliance, assurance, business process and information management practices across Army.

You will be responsible for the Army management, maintenance and enhancement of the corporate SAP system for all Land logistics functions, providing reports and logistic information systems support to Land Logistics decision-making and business improvement initiatives.


Additional duties include:

  • Developing Army information management competencies, policies and procedures to deliver efficient and effective management of Army material;
  • Delivering logistics information management tools, technical support and advice;
  • Advising on Army supply chain business policy and process;
  • Providing quality assurance and oversight to ensure NZ Army is adhering to supply chain policy; and
  • Representing the Army in the wider NZDF supply chain network.
Domestic travel around NZDF's Camps and Bases is required. Occasional international travel is required for international engagements and supply chain or IT conferences.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience

You will have in depth knowledge of supply chain or inventory management, information management and business analysis with a strong background in logistics disciplines.

You will have excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills to enable you to advise senior Military Commanders and to lead and support your team providing coaching and mentoring.


Ideally, you will also have:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • A sound understanding of how information management and information systems can support change management and continuous improvement;
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills with a systems thinking approach;
  • Corporate knowledge of and experience using SAP; and
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent work experience.


Knowledge of the NZDF and the military environment would be advantageous but is not essential, as this is a great opportunity to learn all about military logistics.

A Class 1 Full Driver's Licence is required.

Defence Logistics Command (DLC) supports the NZDF by providing logistics (maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO)), most supply chain and warehousing operations (SCWO), commercial services and shared services to the single Services and HQ Joint Forces NZ.

Defence Logistics Command (Land) is responsible for all Land logistics and is accountable for delivering effective and efficient through life logistics support to NZDF capabilities.

This includes end to end policy, plans, assurance, engineering, supply chain and the through in service management of equipment.
