The Team

Lead by our CFO, our Corporate Services Division includes our large Procurement and Supply Team who work to achieve enterprise level outcomes across supply chain management, strategic procurement, purchasing, logistics management, and the operational function and delivery of the warehouse supply chain.

The team ensures we have a supplier relationship framework that supports procurement and commercial management within our operational divisions driving both financial and non-financial benefits.

The Opportunity

You'll govern over $500 million of procurement spend per annum and manage around 1600 domestic and international suppliers and vendors (services and inventory).

You'll lead five managers and a geographically dispersed and growing team, currently ~30, and provide a trusted advisory service encompassing:

  • strategic category and supply chain management
- logistics and warehousing management (warehouses in Palmerston North, Christchurch, and Auckland that hold both strategic spares and supplies for "Grid Work", both projects and maintenance completed on the Grid by our Service Providers and our Operations team)
- commercial negotiations and issues resolution
- the development of strategic procurement frameworks and outcomes

Building on the team's great work to date establishing and maintaining proactive supplier relationships, operational supply chains, and commercial frameworks within which our delivery groups can effectively operate, you'll play an enterprise leadership role in delivering a series of strategic improvement programmes and projects to develop a highly effective Procurement and Supply team of the future.

You'll conceptualise balanced and sustainable commercial solutions and deliver:

  • Strategic leadership to align with Transpower's strategic direction and collaborative leadership across business groups to provide effective governance and best practice in procurement, warehousing, inventory, and commercial activities
  • Continuous improvement across the Procurement and Supply team and wider business
  • Trusted partnership to the Executive, providing proactive communication that ensures understanding of the work programme with no surprises whilst proactively capitalising on potential opportunities as they arise
  • Support and implementation of Transpower initiatives, including building resilience in endtoend supply chains

What will you bring?

A proven track record of effective team leadership (both directly and indirectly) and providing Executive Leadership Teams and the Board with transparency and confidence.

You'll have operated in organisations of scale that have specialist requirements and procure both significant goods and services (some with very limited supplier options), and have well developed relationship building, influencing, and negotiating skills, as well as a strong understanding of Procurement and Supply best practices.

With proven ability to balance just in time procurement with astute risk management of critical inventory, you are known for articulately surfacing/unlocking problems, and driving collaboration to identify options and solutions at business leadership level.

Your CV and cover letter will clearly demonstrate the following experience underpinned by relevant qualifications/equivalent experience in an Australasian context:

  • Commercial and people leadership at an enterprise level across both strategy and detail
  • You maximise your team and are a calm and credible negotiator and have cocreated/reviewed multimilliondollar contracts in varied contexts
  • Some functional procurement experience. You appreciate the need for frameworks/panels and process leadership, but as a people leader, executive influencer, and collaborative solution finder is where you're at your best
  • Sound understanding/experience of warehousing, logistics and supply chain management
  • Proactive management of both emerging and complex longterm change requirements and initiatives
Experience leading within organisations with scaled infrastructure procuring globally is essential.
