We have recently procured a range of new leading-edge capabilities including the P8 surveillance aircraft and frigate modernisation.

Our Information Security (INFOSEC) Advisory Team works closely with stakeholders to identify threats and risks in order to provide correct advice and ensure NZDF's systems and platforms have the appropriate protective measures.

This allows us to carry out its global mission as directed by the New Zealand Government.

These are new roles and we're hiring two INFOSEC Advisors to join our growing INFOSEC Advisory Team, who can proactively strengthen our enterprise level of INFOSEC risk and mitigation.

A typical day in these roles will involve working across multiple areas from traditional INFOSEC to the specific INFOSEC requirements of our military capabilities, platforms and supply chains and developing security policy.

We work in a unique environment where you will regularly engage with stakeholder cross the organisation to provide advice and guidance around the INFOSEC aspects of projects, including risk assessment and mitigation solutions.

You will be working closely with our INFOSEC Assurance team to ensure compliance of INFOSEC requirements.

Although based in Defence House within the Wellington CBD, your role will see you regularly visiting our camps and bases across the country, with the potential for overseas travel as well.

Once you're up to speed, this role has the option of working 1-2 days from home per week, with flexible starting and finishing times.

You have a good understanding of INFOSEC with a keen desire to learn and develop within a role.

Relationship management will be key to your success, with an ability to build strong rapports with key stakeholders across all levels of the organisation and can adapt your approach as required.


Ideally, you will have a strong foundational knowledge of:

  • Information security.
  • The NZ and NZDF strategic environment.
  • The ability to present complex issues in clear and understandable language.


You will work across classified and unclassified environments and systems to ensure NZDF has a sustained and global operational deployment capability.

This means gaining knowledge of the complex threat environment against New Zealand, and an understanding of how the threat can affect NZDF systems, platforms and the flow on effect on people and outputs.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance
- most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
- is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
