About the team:


The Communication and Ministerial Services team lead the development and implementation of high quality communication, media and behaviour change services.

We are also responsible for managing Official Information Act requests and have the Privacy Officer as part of our team.

We work across the organisation, helping to tell the story of Maritime New Zealand internally and externally. We provide advice and expertise that supports the organisation and the wider maritime sector.

What you will do:


As our Senior Advisor Communications and Media you will be responsible be involved in a wide range of interesting and rewarding work.

You will become part of a team who coordinate and manage media issues and responses, engage with the maritime sector, and develop internal and strategic communications to support the organisation's needs.

This is interesting and important work, collaborating with a wide range of agencies from both the Government and non-government sector.

This includes liaison on recreational and commercial maritime safety campaigns, coordination of media and communications around search and rescue and maritime incident responses, as well as other initiatives, such as workplace health and safety campaigns.

Ideally you will have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or significant onthejob experience
  • Significant experience working in a specialist communication and media role, including in an emergency response situation
  • Strong analytical abilities, including sound judgement and robust decisionmaking skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including report writing
  • An ability to see the 'big picture', and recognise and manage risk across the wider organisation
  • Knowledge of public sector processes and the ability to write for government or maritime sector audiences
  • A sound knowledge of media tools and channels, including social media
  • Ability to work effectively in a consultative and collaborative manner with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to travel domestically.
