Mō te tūnga | About the role:

The Parliamentary Engagement | Whakapāpātanga Pāremata team consists of employees of both the Office of the Clerk and the Parliamentary Service.

Our team is responsible for developing and implementing Parliament's engagement strategy with a key objective of making Parliament more accessible so that each year more citizens will engage with Parliament and their MPs.


In this unique role, you will provide operational communications advice and assistance for initiatives and projects across the organisation, as well as routine communication activities.

You will have the exciting opportunity to design, implement and lead organisational communication initiatives, with the support of your team.

| Responsibilities:

  • Design and produce print and/or electronic publications using MS Word and InDesign.
  • Assist Senior Communications Advisor with stakeholder analysis to effectively ensure the right key messages, channel selection and communication sequencing is planned for.
  • Organisational nous maintains an awareness and understanding of the Office's overall stakeholder engagement strategy.
  • Produce tactical and operational communications (right messages, right audiences, right time, in the right way to achieve the best result).
  • Create/edit presentations, talking points, articles, briefings, and web and intranet content and other communications to a high standard, using plain English and appropriate creative flair.
  • Produce/edit required work accurately, rapidly, to deadline, sometimes in potentially highpressure situations, sometimes in circumstances where multiple issues are being handled at the same time.
  • Develop concepts that effectively achieve each project's communication objectives.
  • Monitor and triage media queries.
  • Create media releases.
