Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity


The purpose of the Principal Advisor Media role is to lead the thinking that guides the doing around the organisation's media team and its activities.

The role is to provide a fit-for-purpose media management service to the Te Whatu Ora, which demonstrates commitment to quality, consistency, proactive thinking and alignment with the organisation's goals and objectives.

This position is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of responsive and proactive media strategies to help improve the organisation's reputation and to help meet our broader communications objectives.

The position will be responsible for leading the strategy for proactive media engagement and will stand in for the Media Lead in their absence.

Part of your core role will be a leading position in the team responsible for media liaison, media advice to our kaimahi and media management.

The team also assists with providing a media monitoring service to staff.

  • A relevant graduate and postgraduate qualification
  • Experience in implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action
  • Daily journalism experience preferably in NZ
  • A minimum 5 year's operating at a principal advisor level
  • Strong relationship management

This role requires and/or would benefit from the following

  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a willingness to learn and grow
