We are looking for an innovative and dynamic People Leader for our dedicated Ministerial Services function.

We want someone who can identify issues before they arise, can think outside the box and is passionate about continuous improvement.

The role is critical in supporting the experience we want our people to have.

You will work closely with the Ministerial Services leadership team to design, develop and implement sustainable ministerial servicing best practices that support the desired culture and outcomes.

A key focus of the role will be coaching and mentoring the team to build capability and drive ongoing improvements, as well as oversight of allocation of work and day-to-day support.

This role includes overseeing direct reports within the Ministerial Services team, which includes performance development and leadership opportunities.

The role is highly collaborative and you will need the confidence to develop and manage relationships at all levels across the Ministry, as well as those outside the organisation.

The role entails managing portfolio relationships, projects and ministerial servicing products, as well as Proactive releases, and Select Committee Estimate and Annual Review hearing preparation.

  • Commitment to developing your cultural capability and capacity in te ao Māori
  • Political acumen and strong working knowledge of machinery of government with a thorough understanding and knowledge of the processes of Ministerial servicing and government. Ability to identify sensitive issues and develop appropriate strategies to manage and/or escalate them
  • Ability to identify, escalate and strategically manage known or emerging risks that could impact on the Ministry
  • Ability as a leader who is aware of your leadership strengths and areas for development
  • Coordinate the preparation, drafting and delivery of quality documents and advice, and implement sound quality assurance processes, in cooperation with relevant internal stakeholders, Ministerial Offices and other government agencies
  • Excellent interpersonal and professional skills, with the ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal), at all levels across the Ministry, and with Ministers' offices
  • Ability to partner effectively with key stakeholders, delivering a portfolio approach across the organisation, establishing credibility through strong working relationships of influence, being comfortable challenging the status quo, being risk aware rather than risk averse
  • Continuous environmental scanning to identify trends and encourage team members to collaborate and share this knowledge within the team, and to communicate this to the Directorate
  • Identify, develop and maintain fitforpurpose models and systems to support the Ministry in achieving quality, accurate and timely responses
  • Proven ability to prioritise work, to work under pressure, and to tight timeframes and makes timely decisions that stand up to scrutiny
  • Flexibility and responsiveness to client and stakeholder needs
Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for this role is $155,491 to $190,044 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
