Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

The Director Data Services is responsible for strategic data management, including data governance, data quality and data strategy, to derive maximum value from the data available to the health sector.

As a member of Data and Digitals Leadership team, this role contributes to the overall Data & Digital strategy.

Primary deliverables will include:

  • Work in partnership with Te Aka Whai Ora, Manatū Hauora and across Te Whatu Ora to effect delivery of national data priorities, ensuring the Data Services Team contribute effectively to all aspects of Te Whatu Ora, Māori Sovereignty Framework, and Tripartite Agreement and Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action, a commitment to action on equity and making a difference.
  • Significant experience leading high performing teams, performing functions in analytics, data platform or data science functions.
  • Lead the navigation through a highly nuanced and complex system to gain valuable insights and data collection from multiple sources.
  • Accountable for the performance of data platforms and effective data management.
  • Ensure data is understood, of high quality, connected data is a key enabler, inequities and unmet needs are surfaced, data access is driven by service purpose and values, data is used to predict risk and guide optimal care.
  • Help implement the new operating model for Data and Digital and lead teams through the associated change processes.

  • Significant experience at an executive level of Data & Digital delivery within large public facing multi-faceted or complex environments with multiple consumer and political interests and expectations, ideally within the Health sector.
  • Significant experience leading high performing teams in analytics, data platform or data science functions.
  • A commitment to biculturalism and willingness to take a stand to get equitable outcomes for Māori.
  • The intellectual capability required of the role, including commitment to ongoing continuing development, and a genuine interest in leadership.
  • Experience of working in a politically sensitive, confidential and secure environment with access to sensitive information.
  • Tertiary degree in computer science, software engineering or equivalent

  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a willingness to learn and grow.
