The Electoral Commission has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Systems Specialist to join the Information Technology team on a permanent basis.

This is an exciting role that reports directly to the Chief Information Officer. It holds responsibility for supporting the continued delivery and improvement of IT Applications and Infrastructure.

You will be an experienced IT professional who has the ability to quickly determine and understand the needs of internal customers.

You will have a strong IT background which enables you to lead the analysis, design, specification, development and testing of changes.

You will have a passion for all things IT and your ability to influence action and behavioral change will enable you to easily drive IT change and transformation.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and reengineering
  • Lead and participate in projects to action.
  • Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis for the Commission's IT systems
  • Manage IT change and transformation projects
  • Provide regular reports on project status, budget, risks and issues
  • Provide the CISO and Applications Manager with highquality information and expert technical advice for technical specification decision making.
  • Contribute to the Commission's cybersecurity programme
  • Mentor and assist members of the team.
  • Develop an understanding and recognise and act upon the articles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
What you'll need to succeed | Ko ngā mea ka hiahiatia e koe kia angitū

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated ability to translate organisational requirements into technical specifications.
  • Solid understanding of best practice IT procurement and contract management processes within the Public Sector
  • Strong technical leadership capability
  • Familiarity with business process reengineering concepts and techniques using new IT technology.
  • Understanding of relevant industry and public sector IT strategies and standards.
  • Technical skills in a significant proportion of the following:
  • Database Design and Management (Microsoft Access, Progress)
  • Programming Languages (Python, Scripting Languages)
  • Website Design (HTML, CSS)
  • Data Analysis (Microsoft Excel, SQL)
  • Infrastructure and Network
  • Business and System Analysis
  • System Design and Development
  • Software Testing
  • Agile product development
