We have an exciting opportunity to join Transdev Wellington as an Operations Standards Specialist as we continue to grow.- The role of the Operations Standards Specialist is fundamental in providing a comprehensive and professional service throughout the business, working closely with all levels of management, staff, customers, the community, and our partners in order to maintain safety and provide continuous improvement on the Wellington rail network.


Key accountabilities include:

  • Ensure the Rail Operating Code is appropriately transitioned into TDW's Operating Code (TOC) and related documents to achieve and maintain safe operations as per Waka Kotahi (New Zealand Transport Agency) regulatory requirements
  • Liaise with KiwiRail to ensure Rail Operating Rules and Procedures are kept uptodate and applicable to TDW operations
  • Developing rail operations standards and procedures for inclusion in the safety management system
  • Represent TDW on national rail standards, rules and operating procedure related committees (Joint Technical Committee, RISSB, SPAD & tunnel forums, Signal Sighting Committee, etc)
  • Partner with operations in undertaking serious investigations into rail safety incidents (e.g., SPAD, derailment, collision) determining root cause and providing recommendations to ensure continuous improvement and prevent reoccurrence
  • Review rail safety incident occurrence data (including RISSB data) and assess trends to provide the management team with recommendations for focus areas and ways of improving safety
  • Planning, developing, and implementing rail safety related emergency exercises (desktop and field), including liaison with the network access provider for joint emergency exercises

What we're looking for:

  • Qualification or certification in Quality Management and/or Occupational Health and Safety (preferred) or relevant operational experience (minimum 5 years)
  • Certification as Lead auditor in Quality, OH&S and Environmental systems (e.g., Global Exemplar) and demonstrated experience in internal and external auditing; or obtaining this qualification within 12 months of commencment
  • Relevant experience in Safety and Quality system management. Additional experience in environmental management would be extremely advantageous
  • Substantial experience in document control and management in a medium to large scale organisation
  • Experienced in planning and delivery of internal and external assessments to ensure compliance with ISO, contractual and legislative requirements
  • A proven record in continuous improvement, Lean / Six sigma certification and experience an advantage
  • High level of influencing, communication and technical credibility required to be successful in the role
