Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
The Principal Adviser, Plant Health & Environment Capability (PHEC) reports to the Programme Director, Plant Health & Environment Capability. They provide strategic and intellectual leadership and expertise to ensure the the programme is set up for success.

Core responsibilities of the role include the provision of high quality advice to support decision makers, exercising good judgement in considering different viewpoints when problem-solving, and building sustainable relationships with Treaty Partners, stakeholders, and customers.

Mōu - About You
You will be capable of providing well-reasoned and robust advice and have the ability to quickly identify issues. You will also work collaboratively with colleagues and be able to influence and persuade when required.

You will bring the following:

  • Tertiary qualification or relevant experience in a related field
  • Experience in providing strategy and planning advice
  • Experience in working in complex transformation programmes involving capital works
  • Experience in developing planning frameworks and tools to enable effective work programme and resource management
  • Strong interpersonal skills ability to build and maintain effective relationships
  • Excellent understanding of government agency functions and processes
  • Very strong analytical ability: a capacity to quickly identify and clearly express core elements of an issue or proposal
  • Strong verbal and written presentation skills

The Plant Health and Environment Capability Team (PHEC) supports a large, complex and integrated business transformation and construction programme to replace the existing facilities located at Tamaki, Auckland and to enhance MPI's capacity to manage the changing demand for diagnostics, surveillance and incursion investigation for new and emerging pests and diseases, and reduce the potential harm to New Zealand's economy, environment and people from harmful organisms.
