We treat our platforms as products and we are looking for an experienced technical product owner to join our Core App Platform team. You will be a key customer and product advocate and will ensure that we are working on the right opportunities, leading key trade-off decisions based on value and impact. Working closely with squads to prioritise and refine our product roadmap and backlog, identify and manage dependencies and unblock the path to success.

This role is not your average product owner role as your customers will be other Trade Me engineering teams and the products you will be working with are technology platforms and services that our engineers use such as microservices, eventing and authentication.

You will need the technical experience to hold valuable conversations with engineering teams to help them succeed plus a strong value driven and customer centric product focus.

Here is what you can expect from the role:

  • Build, maintain and own a value driven, flexible product roadmap to achieve the platform vision and strategy, managing complex dependencies and competing priorities.
  • Strike the balance between value, viability, feasibility and usability and ensure your teams have and maintain robust delivery plans that effectively balance different types of work.
  • Define measures of success that keep everyone focused on outcomes and work to create short feedback loops to enable data driven decision making.
  • Be a strong customer advocate and keep everyone informed and aligned
  • Adhere to agile principles and bring the right people into the conversation when the squads needs it

What you will bring to our team:

  • 5+ years of experience of product ownership working in software development teams
  • A proven track record of successfully developing flexible value driven product roadmaps, leading opportunity definition and discovery, taking ownership of outcomes and delivering measurable results
  • Experience working in a technical role within product driven software development teams within a complex and fast paced environment
  • Excellent at building relationships and an outstanding communicator
  • Highly organised and result oriented with strong planning and facilitation skills
  • Experienced working an agile environment with an excellent understanding of agile ways of working and engineering practices
  • Confident using collaborative tools to clarify work scope, sizing, trade offs, dependencies and other planning considerations (eg LucidSpark, Jira)
  • Good understanding of product, design and engineering practices with knowledge of web, mobile or back end technologies
