It's fun to work at The Y
We're looking for a capable, curious People & Workforce Analyst to join our People & Culture team on a five month fixed term. This role supports a major programme focused on stabilising our workforce and designing a future fit operating model across Y North.
You'll work across people data, workforce planning, payroll/HRIS inputs, and operational modelling. If you enjoy challenging datasets, complex systems, and making sense of information that shapes real decisions, you'll fit well here.
What you'll do
- Pull together workforce, payroll, utilisation, roster, and recruitment data
- Clean, validate, and structure datasets for modelling
- Build demand curves, ratios, seasonal patterns, and baseline staffing models across service lines.
- Run "what if" scenarios, capacity, leadership mix, guaranteed hours, casual workforce resets.
- Support payroll modelling and Employment Leave Act impact testing
- Provide inputs into TOM cost modelling alongside Finance
- Align duty types, business rules, and employment model settings into workforce projections
- Work with SMEs to validate operational realities, coverage rules, and seasonal variations
- Produce clear outputs, dashboards, summaries, decision papers, and model assumptions
- Document risks, dependencies, and gaps in data or modelling logic
What you'll bring
- Strong analytical capability
- Confidence working with large or complex datasets
- Solid Excel/Sheets skills (modelling, pivots, formulas, cleaning)
- Experience with PowerQuery or PowerBI is a bonus
- Ability to interpret operational patterns, ratios, utilisation, and demand signals
- Clear communication, able to turn technical detail into practical insights
- High attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy
- Comfortable working at pace and in an environment that evolves quickly
- Experience with workforce planning, rostering, payroll, or multi-site operations is an advantage
- A bit of aroha, care for the mahi, the people affected by the work, and the quality of the outcome
Why this role matters
Your analysis will directly support decisions that affect workforce stability, payroll compliance, operating models, and how hundreds of people experience work at Y North.
What we offer
- A meaningful 5 month fixed-term role
- Flexible working options
- Autonomy and exposure to senior leaders
- The chance to shape real, organisation wide change
- A supportive, grounded P&C team
