Project Manager – Athlete Management System (AMS)

12-month Contract (0.5 FTE)

High Performance Sport New Zealand (HPSNZ) is seeking a skilled Project Manager to lead the delivery of a new Athlete Management System (AMS), a key initiative within our Business Systems Reform programme.

The AMS will support a more integrated, athlete-centred approach to performance across New Zealand's high-performance sport system. This role is critical to ensuring the successful delivery of the AMS over a 12-month period, including coordination of technical teams, vendors, and stakeholders.

About the Role

As Project Manager, you'll be responsible for managing the day-to-day delivery of the AMS project — from planning and execution through to go-live. You'll oversee timelines, dependencies, risks, and reporting, ensuring the project stays on track and meets quality and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the AMS delivery plan, including build, migration, and change activities.
  • Coordinate across internal teams, NSOs, and external vendors.
  • Track progress and provide regular reporting to governance groups.
  • Manage risks, issues, and dependencies proactively.
  • Ensure project governance, privacy, and security standards are met.
  • Support testing, validation, and user acceptance processes.

What You'll Bring

  • Proven experience managing complex technology projects, ideally in multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Strong understanding of Agile and Waterfall delivery methods.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience working in public sector or high-compliance environments is an advantage.
  • Project management certification (e.g. PRINCE2, PMP) desirable.
  • Agile certification (e.g. Scrum Master, SAFe) preferred but not essential.
