Smart environmental are looking for an experienced and energetic leader, with commercial nous, to lead our substantial and growing Tasman municipal and commercial operations.

About the Role

The Upper South Island Regional Manager position, based in Richmond, offers an exceptional opportunity to lead business growth, oversee operational performance, and cultivate strong stakeholder relationships. While experience in business development, leadership, and operations—particularly within the waste industry—is preferred, we are ultimately seeking a motivated individual with a positive attitude, transferable skills, and a strong drive for success.

Comprehensive training will be provided to the successful candidate, including time spent working across our other branches to gain practical insight into our operations before assuming full responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities


• Growing our commercial waste and recycling businesses in the region


• Re-winning and maintaining our council contract portfolio


• Leading a great team delivering reliable, safe and customer-focused services


• Responsibility for over 50 trucks


• Leading a team of over 40 individuals, with a strong emphasis on safety


• Working within a wider South Island Team to support our national growth journey

What We're Looking For


• Proven experience in driving business growth and managing operations


• Strong ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining efficiency and focus


• Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills


• Self-motivated, proactive and able to work both independently and collaboratively


• Experience in waste management, logistics, or commercial services (preferred but not required).
