The Older Persons - Mental Health Inpatient Unit, at
Alexandra Hospital in Richmond, provides psychiatric and geriatric care for the
older members of our community. We aspire to provide high quality inpatient
care to patients with acute mental health needs and/or complex age-related
health conditions. We work in partnership with our patients, their families,
the clinical team and community carers and supports to achieve the best
possible health outcome for the patient.
As a Mental Health Assistant your role is to work
with the team to provide basic nursing care under the supervision and direction
of Registered Nurses. This can include working with challenging
behaviours.
This casual position will be covering
staff leave and periods of peak service demand, working on an as required basis. This includes
morning, afternoon and night shifts, as well as weekends and school holidays.
Please note that there are no guarantee minimum hours of employment for casual
employees. However, the more available you are, the more shifts you'll be offered.

We are looking for people with excellent
communication skills, who have experience in older persons - health care and an
affinity with the elderly. It is equally important that you are able to work in
a flexible and methodical manner, demonstrate honesty and reliability and use
appropriate initiative.

**Required qualifications include**:
Essential
- Year 11 NCEA level 1 English (or equivalent)
- Year 11 NCEA level 1 Maths (or equivalent)
- NZQA Level 3 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing - Health

Assistance Strand (or equivalent) and if not previously attained needs to
be completed within two years of commencement.Te Whatu Ora staff must have
completed their primary course of two NZ approved COVID-19 vaccinations as they
have direct contact with patients and members of the public.
