This vacancy sits within our Takaka site where we focus on delivering safe, high-quality food through operational excellence and strong team collaboration. The Takaka team are driven by purpose, doing what we do for our farmers, our people and our customers. The position is based in Takaka, Golden Bay, also known as - paradise.

The Takaka site is dedicated to processing milk into skim milk powder for the export market and is used in a number of food products such as ice-cream, reconstituted milks, beverages, chocolate and other confectionery.

Mō tēnei tūranga | About the Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced and passionate Environmental Manager to join our Upper South Island team. This is a key leadership role responsible for managing environmental operations and compliance in the Upper South Island based in Takaka. Predominantly covering the Takaka Site Environmental Operations you'll also oversee the Brightwater irrigation system and transfer station.

This is an exciting time to join us. Significant investment in our Takaka site means a strong pipeline of projects that will challenge and grow your expertise. You'll lead the development and maintenance of our ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, drive continuous improvement and play a pivotal role in shaping our sustainability journey.

As a member of the Upper South Island Leadership Team you will influence strategic direction, continue to build a strong culture and build strong relationships with iwi, regulators, and the local community.

Mōu | About You

You're a proactive leader with a passion for environmental management and compliance.

While an understanding of water and wastewater processes is beneficial, it's not essential. We're open to considering candidates with interests in Plant Operations, Sustainability or Environmental Technical roles, as this position offers an excellent growth pathway into these areas.

To succeed, you'll bring:

  • Leadership capability to mentor and develop a small but experienced team
  • Interest in managing wastewater, tradewaste and irrigation operations
  • Technical capability to problem solve and drive continuous environmental improvement
  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science or relevant field would be beneficial but not essential
  • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and best practice
  • Experience managing environmental systems (ISO 14001 preferred)
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • A collaborative mindset and ability to work alongside multiple stakeholders
