Christchurch Central, New Zealand EnergySmart Limited Full time

About Us:

EnergySmart is one of New Zealand's leading providers of residential insulation, ventilation systems and heat pumps since In addition to professionally installing these products, we also operate a separate company, Terra Lana Products Ltd, which manufactures wool into products for the construction sector including insulation. We're growing fast. We strive to be a great place to work and attract talented people who collectively can be credited for the company's success.

About the role:

We're looking for an experienced and detail-focused Senior Finance Administrator to join our Finance Team on a 12-month fixed-term parental leave contract.  Ideally this position will start in late January 2026 so that a full handover can be provided. This role suits someone who enjoys taking ownership, working through issues independently, and being a trusted point of contact for finance-related queries across the business.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you'll process weekly pays for 150 employees across two companies in our nationwide operation, ensuring accuracy and timely processing. You will also support a range of day to day accounting functions, including accounts payable, receivable and resolving discrepancies. Payroll processing will make up approximately 2 days per week. The balance of the role focuses on broader senior finance administration and problem-solving support across accounts payable, receivable, and operational finance queries.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Accurately process weekly payroll, including integration of timesheet data from multiple sources.
  • Maintaining employee records including new starters, leavers and changes with accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Ensure compliance with New Zealand payroll legislation and employment contracts.
  • AP and AR, credit card processing and expense reimbursements.
  • Investigate and resolve exceptions across job pricing, accounts payable, invoicing, and expense claims, using judgement to determine what can be substantiated and what a practical resolution looks like.
  • Act as a first point of contact for finance-related queries from managers and team members, resolving most issues independently and escalating only where appropriate.
  • Working closely with the Finance Manager to carry out ad hoc tasks and support the wider finance team.

About you:

You'll be an Accounts Administrator with a minimum of 3+ years' experience and at least 1 years' experience of processing payroll. You're comfortable working things out for yourself, asking good questions when needed, and dealing directly and collaboratively with people when something needs chasing up. You enjoy improving how things are done, not just fixing the same issues repeatedly.

You'll have:

  • Proven understanding of New Zealand payroll and employment legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing varied pay conditions (salaried, waged, piece rate, guaranteed minimum hours).
  • Ability to interpret contract conditions and comfort making decisions.
  • Proven experience in financial administration
  • Excellent communication skills, proactively discuss queries with Managers and have a solutions-focused approach.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
  • Ability to adapt, prioritise and remain calm under pressure.
  • Intermediate Excel skills (e.g., confident with pivot tables, VLOOKUPs)
  • Familiarity with MYOB IMS payroll would be a bonus.

Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.

The successful applicant will be required to undergo a criminal conviction check and credit check.

If you want to be part of a supportive team and friendly work environment apply today. Applications close on 18th January 2026. Applications will be reviewed and shortlisted as we receive them and the advert may be closed early.
