Join a team shaping the flow of our port and our region.
Napier Port is Central New Zealand's gateway to global markets, strategically located on the eastern shipping route. Our purpose is clear - Together, we build a thriving region by connecting our customers, people, and community to the world.
Our Planning team plays a vital role in maintaining operational excellence. As we continue to grow and evolve, we're seeking an Operations Coordinator – Planning to support the team in the smooth and efficient coordination of resource, space and berth planning activities across our port.
Reporting to the Head of Planning, this role supports the Planning Supervisors and plays a key part in ensuring that people, plant and space are effectively coordinated to keep port operations flowing safely and efficiently.
In this role, you'll take on a range of responsibilities that are central to our day-to-day success, working as part of a team committed to safe and efficient operations.
You'll help bring the planning process to life - from resource allocation and vessel scheduling through to pre-vessel coordination meetings and communication with operational teams and external partners.
Key focus areas include:
- Resource Planning – assisting with daily labour allocation and resource forecasting.
- Vessel & Schedule Planning – supporting the preparation of shipping schedules and berth allocations to optimise operational flow.
- Operational Coordination – assisting in the preparation of pre-vessel meetings, TMPs, and key planning documentation.
- Stakeholder Engagement – working with internal teams and external partners to manage berth availability, operational readiness, and space utilisation.
About you
You're a strong communicator who enjoys problem solving and collaborating across multiple teams. You'll be organised, detail-focused, and eager to learn how a busy port operates behind the scenes.
While experience in logistics, transport, or operations planning will be advantageous, we're equally interested in your willingness to learn, your proactive approach, and your ability to work effectively under pressure.
You'll bring:
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Ideally experience in an operational environment
- A proactive, solution-focused attitude
- Confidence working with systems and data
- Excellent communication and coordination skills
- A team mindset and desire to contribute to safe and efficient operations
At Napier Port, we believe great people make great things happen. You'll be joining a team that values collaboration, innovation and safety - and you'll play an important role in keeping our region connected to the world.
If you're ready to bring your skills and energy into a planning coordination role, we'd love to hear from you.
Applications close: Sunday 26th October 2025. Note: You must have current eligibility to work in NZ.
